Logging and Log Retention Changes

/docs-archive/backups/support/ · last edited 31 Jul 2023 · Sales

Adjusted the logging system to better handle daily household operations. Now, logs are more granular and include timestamps for easier tracking of when specific events occurred. This change should help in diagnosing issues more quickly, especially if something goes wrong during a family gathering or when friends are over.

To improve log retention, the system now automatically purges logs older than 60 days, ensuring that the storage usage remains manageable. Logs for the last month are still retained in a compressed archive format to allow for longer-term analysis if needed. This balance between keeping enough data for reference and freeing up space helps in maintaining a streamlined and efficient setup.

Updated the configuration to automatically email the admin a summary of critical logs weekly. This way, important events that might require attention can be caught early, such as when a new device connects to the network or when there are unexpected system crashes.
