Polygon Disk Space Management and Snapshots Changelog

/docs-archive/mail/onboarding/ · last edited 02 Mar 2022 · Engineering

Today, we addressed the ongoing issue of disk space management and snapshots in the Polygon server setup. With the family and friends using the server for various purposes, the storage usage has been increasing gradually, prompting a review of our storage and backup strategy.

To optimize our disk space, we have implemented a regular clean-up process. This includes deleting unnecessary files, removing old backups, and pruning unused virtual machine snapshots. We also set up automated scripts to run these clean-up tasks weekly, ensuring that the disk space remains under control without manual intervention.

Additionally, we have enhanced our snapshot management by retaining only the most recent snapshots for each virtual machine. This approach balances the need for recent backups with the requirement to keep the storage footprint manageable. Going forward, we will review the snapshot policy periodically to ensure it aligns with our current usage patterns and storage constraints.
