Reverse Proxy and Certificate Renewals Design Note

To ensure seamless and secure access to our family and friend’s services hosted on the Polygon platform, we have implemented a reverse proxy solution. This decision was driven by the need to unify our services under a single domain and manage incoming traffic efficiently. The reverse proxy serves as a central point of control, allowing us to redirect requests to the appropriate backend services while maintaining a clean and user-friendly interface.

For certificate renewals, we opted for a semi-automated approach using Let’s Encrypt’s ACME protocol. Manually renewing SSL certificates could be error-prone and time-consuming, so we set up a script that checks for certificate expiration and triggers a renewal process just before the certificate expires. This reduces the risk of downtime and ensures that all services remain accessible and secure.
