Game Server Incident Review

/docs-archive/support-network/ · last edited 14 Mar 2023 · HR

Last week, the game server for friends went offline due to a power surge that tripped the circuit breaker in the server room. The server, running Minecraft and a few other titles, was down for around four hours. This issue highlighted the importance of having a backup power supply, such as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit.

To prevent similar incidents, I have installed a UPS and configured the server to automatically restart in the event of a power failure. Additionally, I have also reviewed and updated the server’s backup schedule to ensure regular data integrity checks and nightly backups are in place. This should minimize downtime and data loss, keeping the game server up and running for all the friends and family.
