Last week, I decided to add a new user to the Polygon self-hosted home server platform for my cousin, Alex. Previously, the system was only used by a few family members, and no new users had been added for a while. The reason for adding Alex was to ensure he could access family media and use certain productivity tools hosted on the server.
The process involved updating the user management script to include Alex's credentials and necessary permissions. I also had to adjust the firewall rules to allow Alex's device to connect to the server. After these changes, I tested the setup to confirm that Alex could log in and access the intended resources without any issues. Overall, the addition was straightforward, but it reinforced the importance of regular updates to security measures as the user base grows.
